| USU Integrates Business and IT |
Möglingen, 03.03.2009 Cutting the costs of IT operations by one third, optimally managing the availability of business processes, solving problems in half the time - all this and more is possible by consistently aligning your IT operations with your business objectives and processes. Business Service Management (BSM) integrates IT to increase its benefit to business. To implement this concept, USU features Valuemation, a comprehensive, modularly structured and ITIL-compliant set of tools. At this year's CeBIT (Hall 3, Stand C51), USU will present many new functions and integrated modules, such as completely revamped license management, Automatic Dependency Mapping and dashboards as well as an overall solution for structuring and implementing an IT service catalog.
Right there at the interface between business and IT: That's exactly where USU applications monitor and control all IT systems and components that support business processes. Some key parameters in this process are minimizing the risk of IT outages (downtimes) affecting mission-critical business systems, ensuring transparency over all IT data as well as achieving cost efficiency and maintaining high levels of service quality. Recent studies conducted by international market research companies such as Forrester, Gartner and ECPweb.com have all confirmed USU's position as one of the world's leading solution providers in the key BSM areas of IT Asset Management, Configuration Management and IT Service Management. USU's Valuemation links mission-critical IT applications, organizational structures, interfaces and technologies with business processes. New: Valuemation Express for IT Asset and IT Service Management Valuemation Express is a new suite of applications for quick implementation of immediately deployable standard workflows based on ITIL® standards and recognized best-practice processes. Valuemation Express integrates core applications within the areas of IT Asset/Lifecycle Management as well as traditional Help Desk functions for Incident/Problem Management. Valuemation Express is ideally suited for SME's and larger enterprises with less complex IT structures and for meeting standard needs. Helpful, readily usable features such as pre-configured templates, interfaces, data classifications, roles and rights along with pre-defined reports and escalation rules allow you to get up and running promptly. It features a flexible, modular software design that allows it to be smoothly and easily extended to meet growing needs.
New: Automatic Dependency Mapping: The Key to Truly Valuable CMDB Content For inventorying and automatic correlation of business services to IT infrastructure components, USU's automatic dependency mapping employs integrated best-of-breed technologies. Valuemation Inventory, based on BDNA Technology, does the following: It locates all hardware and software components across all platforms and positively identifies them by means of unique fingerprints. A comprehensive product catalog enhances the technical raw data with helpful, informative product-related data. Valuemation Dependency Mapping, a technology from Tideway Systems, also acquires configuration data and automatically maps the connections between IT applications and the business processes that they support. This system enables the graphical display of the complex, logical and physical interrelationships of products, business processes and services. What's more, the high quality of the consolidated data allows the time and effort for updating data in the CMDB to be dramatically reduced.
New: Award-Winning Software License Management Lowering software costs and minimizing compliance risks - these are the goals of Valuemation License Manager. When it comes to software, no matter whether you're concerned with a full version, upgrade, package, add-on, suite or test license, Valuemation License Manager handles the following tasks: The system manages various classes of licenses and fully monitors the greatest varieties of license-related metrics. In a case of over-licensing, it automatically starts a process for disposing of the extra licenses. Similarly, in a case of under-licensing, it starts a process for procuring additional ones. And now, with the new license pooling tool, you can distinguish between license owners and license users, allowing you to track licenses as they are moved among clients.
New: Customer-Oriented IT Service Catalog The Valuemation Service Level Manager serves as a bridge between the technical description of IT services and their specification in formal customer/business-based service agreements. It provides full support in modeling, defining and documenting a service catalog to be employed as a personalized shopping cart designed to control user access to goods and services. This catalog clearly describes what services are available, what they cost and how each one is provided. In doing so, the Service Request Manager automates the workflows involved, from initial application all the way to final provision. The cost and service components in the IT service catalog are the basis for performing IT service calculations with the Planning/Calculation Manager. Furthermore, the Costing/Charging Manager allows cost drivers to be identified and IT services to be provided at various price structures, depending on demand, and their costs to be allocated (charged back) in a usage-based, audit-compliant manner.
New: Across-The-Board Client Lifecycle Management Today, PC workstations are not just simply equipped, used and later removed from service and eventually disposed of. Instead, during their entire lifecycle they have to be operated and administered in the most efficient and economical manner. In addition, end users expect readily available services, prompt handling of their support requests and continuous tracking of the status of these requests. The primary emphasis here is on achieving a permanent reduction in costs by standardizing IT infrastructures and ensuring a high level of service availability. This can only be achieved by implementing a comprehensive, standardized process characterized by smooth transitions and no glitches due to cross-system incompatibilities. With the addition of a new software distribution tool, Valuemation now has a universally applicable, highly integrated solution for client lifecycle management through all service phases, from initial procurement on down to ultimate disposal.
New: Service Knowledge Management System Based on ITIL v3 Through the integration of proven technologies in the USU KnowledgeCenter product line, Valuemation now supports the concept of "Service Knowledge Management Systems" (SKMS) as described in ITIL v3. By facilitating access to structured technical data and process-related contents about incidents, problems, known errors, changes, releases as well as organizational information, the entire wealth of IT information throughout your business can be proactively applied for your business.
New: Valuemation Dashboard: The Right Place to Go for Reliable Information Dashboards succinctly present all Valuemation-based information that is critical for decision-making in compact and readily understandable displays. The massive amounts of data gleaned from Valuemation are distilled into the most suitable kinds of concise graphical diagrams. They can also be depicted in other appropriate graphical forms such as tachometers or maps. This makes helpful, informative key performance indicators (KPIs) available right at a glance, essentially in real time. In this way, mission-critical KPIs can be easily analyzed and monitored. At the same time, the role-based rights model controls access to individual dashboards, whose content can also be customized as needed. What's more, this dashboard module can be linked to already existing portals on the Internet or an enterprise Intranet or Extranet.
Business Service Management All from One Source Using a standardized platform, all 13 Valuemation modules focus on additional topics in the core areas of infrastructure, service/change, event & availability and finance management. The Valuemation Monitoring Manager is a comprehensive solution for monitoring and automating IT systems. Its graphical displays and event-correlation capabilities give managers reliable information on the availability of business processes. The integrated alarm ("interrupt") management and the embedded operating interfaces permit rapid fault analysis and correction. Yet another module, the Service Request Manager, supports an automated IT application process for IT services, makes order tracking transparent and speeds up the processing times for IT procurements and installations. Similarly, the Change Manager allows changes to infrastructure to be reliably and automatically implemented. Changes are planned, approved, checked and reviewed based on standardized, ITIL®-compliant processes. Finally, the Costing/Charging and Planning/Calculation managers cover the needs in the area of IT Finance Management. These tools enable a detailed and usage-based allocation of IT services and support the implementation of transparent planning and costing processes. In essence, these integrated software modules operate at the interface between the technical side and business side to promote efficient enterprise workflows. And that's precisely what we mean by Business Service Management all from one source.
